Excellent Growth Outlook: Durham County enjoys strong population expansion, excellent employment growth and an influx of immigrants which are strong catalysts for its job and real estate markets.
Favorable Demographics: Demographic trends are driving strong household formation and a robust housing market. Unlike the generally weak southeastern region, Durham's housing market continues to show solid pricing, good turnover and an absence of excess supply. Household formation has grown 23.7% from 2000 to 2006, and has far outpaced the national growth rate of 5.8% over the period.
Enviable Employment Mix: The Research Triangle Park, several universities and the growing downtown business district sustain a large number of management and administrative jobs, well above national averages. Highly desirable service job totals are slightly higher than national averages and growing rapidly. The Durham County job market is dominated by professional and managerial jobs, with fully 50.7% of employment attributable to these areas as of 2006, versus only 37% for the nation as a whole.
