THE RE-DEVELOPMENT OF MIAMI’S MID BEACH
Miami Beach - The Redevelopment of Mid Beach
Developers are increasingly using the cache of nearby South Beach to promote projects north of 23rd Street, including the proposed Cipriani Ocean Resort & Club Residences, Palms Hotel and Ocean 3651 luxury condominiums. Indeed, whether "South Beach" technically extends northward or not, the SoBe cool luxury ethos is migrating up the beach.
The Cultural Arts Overlay District (CAND) provides a bridge from SoBe to the Mid Beach. Just north of the well known Loews, National and Delano Hotels lies the Bass Museum. The frontage of the museum consists of the multi acre Bass Park stretching from 21st to 22nd streets, which opposes Collins Park and the Beach. The Miami Beach public Library and Miami Ballet 22nd street between Collins and Washington pull together this cultural center of gravity. The Mayor hopes that this area, stretching back to Washington Avenue, will be a center for artistic community development, including loft space and "work force" housing developments.
